Schaefer Park Cleanup and Potluck Set Saturday to Commemorate 9/11 Victims

by Chronicle staff

Centralia Share at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with Lewis County Parks and Recreation and Vegetation Management, will hold a community service event on Saturday, September 10, starting at 9 a.m. to clean up Schaefer Park.

The clean-up effort is being held in memory of those lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Anyone interested is welcome to help. Approximately 200 volunteers and Lewis County staff are already expected to participate.

Cleaning efforts will focus on paths around the park, removing fallen trees, painting on graffiti, and sanding under picnic tables. Those planning to go are also asked to bring chainsaws, sanding equipment, a weeder, wheelbarrows, pruning equipment, hand saws, and lawn chairs if applicable.

Clean-up efforts are expected to continue until noon, when volunteers begin picnics and barbecues. While lunch is served, volunteers are encouraged to bring additional side dishes or desserts to eat as well.

Schaefer Park is located just north of the Centralia city limits at 822 Downing Road off State Route 507.
