Paul Wesley criticizes animal agriculture and calls for a global shift to veganism

Famous actor Paul Wesley criticized animal husbandry and called for a global shift to vegetarianism.

Best known for his role on The Vampire Diaries, this vegan star recently supported the Plant-Based Treaty — a grassroots campaign aimed at putting food systems at the forefront of fighting the climate crisis.

The treaty is modeled on the fossil fuel treaty and aims to halt the “large-scale degradation of vital ecosystems” caused by animal agriculture – while promoting more sustainable plant-based diets.

At the time of writing, more than 49,000 individuals, 868 companies and 867 organizations have ratified the treaty – which will serve as a companion to the UNFCCC/Paris Agreement.

Plant Based Treaty

Endorsing the initiative on social media, Wesley said: “I signed the plant-based treaty because animal husbandry has wiped out our beautiful forests and animals beyond recognition.

“We need to switch to plant-based diets to protect rivers, oceans, air and soil.”

“It is time to mobilize and organize in our societies to pressure elected officials to negotiate a global plant-based treaty and avoid planetary collapse,” the star added.

Is Paul Wesley a vegetarian?

Since he became a vegetarian himself, Wesley often uses his platform to speak out against animal farming.

In 2020, he told his 4.1 million Twitter followers: “Factory farming is, in my opinion, one of the most important issues of our time. If not the most important

“The unimaginable suffering imposed on living beings, the cause of many diseases/epidemics, and the biggest contributor to climate change. Join me and go vegan in 2021.”
